Anyone who has seriously searched for an apartment or house knows the feeling: you open a portal, get 200 results, half are outdated, a quarter don't fit on second glance, and somewhere between tab 12 and tab 19 you lose track of what you've already looked at. Inquiries disappear into nowhere. Listings look like they're from 2009. And in the end you call somewhere anyway because the contact form didn't work.
wohnara is an attempt to do it differently.
What wohnara is
wohnara is a real estate platform for buying and renting in Germany - built with the idea that searching can be calm and clear, instead of noisy and overwhelming. No cluttered interfaces, no hidden steps. Instead: clear listings, useful filters, and a contact flow that actually works.
Search, compare, decide
The search cleanly separates buying from renting. If you find a property interesting but aren't ready to reach out yet, you save it to your list. If you want to continue later, you pick up exactly where you left off.
That sounds like a small thing. But it isn't. Apartment hunting rarely happens in one go - you check in the morning, again in the evening, on your phone in between. A platform that remembers this saves real time.
Contact tied to the property
Inquiries on wohnara are directly linked to the specific listing. Messages have context. Sellers and landlords know which property an inquiry refers to. And when multiple people are searching together - partners, family, colleagues - everyone can see where things stand, without having to send each other screenshots.
What I built
wohnara is a product I co-founded with Bastian Bachmann. Bastian owns the vision, market, and partnerships. My part was the technical side: the architecture of the entire platform, the search function with all filters, the listing detail views, the saved list, the search history, and the contact flow - the path from first interest to a completed inquiry tied to the right property.
The goal from the start was to build a foundation that runs reliably, can be maintained, and can be built on without having to tear everything apart again. Not a throwaway product, but something that grows with what's still to come.
